I teach to help students find, tune, and amplify their voices, enabling them to understand and act in the world in more meaningful ways.
I teach undergraduate and graduate students through the art history and museum studies programs at IU Indianapolis. My courses present art history, visual studies, and museum studies as avenues through which students can connect more deeply with – and in turn shape – the world around them. I regularly link coursework to issues and experiences students encounter outside of the classroom. Often this involves learning on site (at museums and in public spaces that are relevant to our topics of study) and in conversation or collaboration with community partners.
Before coming to IU, I taught art history at Swarthmore College and UC Irvine. I also teach outside of formal academic settings. I’ve worked with a range of students, from docents in training at Newfields to five-year-olds in low-cost art classes.
